Website maintenance: what should your monthly plan include?

Your homepage loads, but does the contact form deliver enquiries? Can customers complete a purchase? Good maintenance looks after the parts your business depends on.

A useful maintenance plan combines software updates, recoverable backups, checks of important customer actions and a clear support contact. The aim is simple: keep the website useful after launch, and have a practical way to respond when something stops working.

An online website is not always a working website.
Practical framework

Protect the work your website does

Ask what is checked, not just which tools are installed.

01

Updates with checks

Apply relevant updates with a backup and checks before and after release. Urgent security fixes should not wait for a routine monthly visit.

02

Backups you can restore

Cover the files and business data, keep separate copies and test recovery. Choose backup frequency around how often orders or content change.

03

Working customer journeys

Check enquiry delivery, mobile navigation and the buying journey. A successful homepage check cannot tell you whether checkout or a form has failed.

Hosting and maintenance

A place to run is not a support plan

Hosting provides the environment for your website. Maintenance covers the application and its everyday use. Check who handles renewals, failed updates and broken connections. If hosting, email and development sit with different providers, agree who coordinates a problem rather than leaving your team to chase everyone.

Compare the scope

Choose support around your business

A small presentation site and a busy shop need different attention. Compare included tasks, support hours, response targets and reporting before comparing monthly prices. Keep hosting, licences, content changes and new development clearly priced. Ask how issues are escalated and which urgent work requires approval.

Questions people ask

Clear answers, without the jargon.

01Does hosting include website maintenance?+

Not necessarily. Some hosting plans include backups or managed updates, but application support and customer journey checks may be separate. Read the actual scope.

02Can automatic updates handle everything?+

They help, but cannot replace compatibility checks, recovery planning or a person investigating a failed checkout. Decide how important updates are tested and monitored.

03Can LineWeb support a website built by someone else?+

We can review the existing setup first, then agree what we can maintain, what needs repair and how access and responsibility will work.
