AI shopping ads are changing. What should Greek online stores do now?

Google's September Demand Gen update adds product conversations to YouTube ads in a US beta. For Greek retailers, the useful work starts with accurate product information and a buying journey that can answer real questions.

Short answer: do not rebuild your store for a feature you cannot yet use. Google's new Business Agent lets shoppers ask product questions alongside certain YouTube ads, but Google describes the beta as an invitation for US retailers. A Greek account should not assume access.

The September 24 Demand Gen announcement also describes simpler one-tap journeys from image ads on YouTube Shorts and Gmail. These changes reinforce a familiar business question: when a person arrives with buying intent, can your product information and website help them decide?

This is LineWeb's independent reading of Google's announcements, not a claim of Greek availability, an endorsement by Google or a prediction of sales.

A useful answer in an ad cannot rescue an unclear product page.
Practical framework

Prepare the information before the campaign.

Three checks that matter even when a new ad feature is unavailable to your account.

01

Accurate product data

Keep price, stock, variants, images and delivery terms consistent between your feed and store.

02

A page that answers questions

Make fit, specifications, returns and the next buying step easy to find on mobile.

03

Measured outcomes

Review qualified visits, add-to-cart and completed orders alongside cost, not clicks alone.

What Google announced

Product conversations in YouTube ads are a US beta

Business Agent for YouTube ads is not a general Greek-market launch.

Google says eligible retailers in its US beta can place a conversational Business Agent alongside video ads with product feeds. Viewers can ask questions about a product or brand without leaving the YouTube viewing context. The September 24 update invites businesses to sign up; Google's September 16 retail announcement specifies the US beta.

Separately, Google says image ads on YouTube Shorts and Gmail can take a shopper to the advertiser's landing page with one tap. For Shorts, it points to 9:16 full-bleed image creatives. The announcement does not establish that every placement or account in Greece has the same settings today. Check the actual account before planning spend around a new format.

What to do in Greece

Make the store ready for the questions people already ask

Imagine a customer considering outdoor equipment. They may need to know the right size, whether it is in stock, when it arrives and what happens if it does not fit. Those answers should be correct on the product page before they are repeated by any automated shopping experience.

Audit a small group of products first. Compare the store's visible price, availability, variant names and shipping details with its Merchant Center feed. Fix conflicting or missing information. Add useful specifications and original images where the products need them; avoid inventing attributes just to appear in AI responses.

Google's September 16 announcement also describes AI performance insights in Merchant Center, but lists availability in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the US. Do not promise that dashboard to a Greek merchant. The product-data audit remains useful without it.

  • Choose a representative product category, not the whole catalogue at once.
  • Check the mobile product page and checkout as a customer would.
  • Confirm feed data matches what the customer can actually buy.
  • Keep claims about AI visibility separate from verified account features.
A practical campaign test

Test the journey, not the announcement

If Demand Gen fits the audience, start with one category and a defined budget. Match the creative to a relevant product or category page. Decide in advance which purchases or qualified enquiries count as useful outcomes, and verify that consent-aware measurement records them correctly.

Compare the trial with an appropriate baseline and allow for seasonal changes. A rise in visits does not prove profitable growth. If a new format is not available, improve the existing product page, feed and follow-up first. The next platform feature should extend a working journey, not become the reason it exists.

Questions people ask

Clear answers, without the jargon.

01Is Google's Business Agent for YouTube ads available in Greece?+

Google's September 16, 2026 announcement describes an invited US retailer beta. It does not establish Greek availability. Check your own Google Ads and Merchant Center eligibility before making plans around it.

02Should I change my online store for AI shopping ads?+

Start with accurate product data and a clear mobile buying journey. Do not rebuild a store solely for a beta feature that may not be available to your account.

03Will better product data guarantee visibility in AI shopping results?+

No. Accurate, useful product information improves the material available to shoppers and platforms, but no agency can guarantee a placement, citation or sale.

04What should an ecommerce ad test measure?+

Define the relevant product category, budget and useful outcomes before launch. Assess completed orders or qualified enquiries and their cost alongside visits, allowing for attribution limits.
